December 12, 2007:
Lakes Education Center Meeting
About 25 people attended this meeting to discuss how a Lakes Education Center might fit into current plans to redevelop the waterfront in downtown Oshkosh. Committees were formed to review possible sites, explore similar types of facilities, conduct a needs analysis and develop a mission statement. Among potential sites is a proposed pavilion in Riverside Park between the Convention Center and the Leach Amphitheatre. Contact us if you are interested in participating on a committee. Watch this site for the date of a second meeting.
The idea of a Lakes Education Center has been floating around since the early 1990's and resurfaced again in a Commentary by Mary Hiles in the Oshkosh Northwestern, November 4, 2007. The Center would focus on the Winnebago system and be connected to various other cultural and recreational facilities via the planned Riverwalk.
